Dr. Silvia M. Pietralunga received the Laurea degree (cum laude) in Optoelectronics and the Ph.D. degree in Electronic and Communication Engineering from the Politecnico di Milano, Italy, respectively in 1993 and 1998. After a period spent with the Photonic Lab at the Politecnico di Milano, in 1995 she joined CoreCom, Milan, where she is now Principal Investigator for the area Materials and Devices. She has co-authored more than 40 publications on international reviews and 7 assigned patents, covering the fields of optical switching and wavelength conversion, electro-optics, magneto-optics and nonlinear optics, photoconduction in semiconductors; she is also devoted to research in analysis and exploitation of the evolution of the state of polarization of light in optical fibers and waveguides. Dr. Pietralunga is a member of the IEEE/LEOS Executive Board (Italian Chapter). She is also member of the OSA and of the AEIT.
