The 6th Hellenic Society of Rheology
conference took place in Athens, Greece on 28-29/6/2011 at the Demokritos Congress Center, by the foothills of Mount Hymettus in suburban Athens. The conference started with registration on Tuesday morning, 28 June 2011 and ended on Wednesday afternoon, 29 June 2011. As usual, the chair of the organizing commitee was Evan Mitsoulis, who was also elected at the meeting as the new president of our society.
The Conference was attended by 26 delegates mainly from Greece and Cyprus, although some foreign speakers also participated. It included 2 plenary lectures. The scientific papers were presented in 5 major themes. br>
- rheology and rheometry
- structure and dynamics of polymers
- colloids and suspensions
- molecular modelling
- numerical simulations
A total number of 27 papers were given, all oral.
The Plenary lectures were given by: Prof. Dimitris Vlassopoulos of the University of Crete and IESL, FORTH, Greece, entitled “Structure and Viscoelasticity of Fluorocarbons at the Air/Water Interface” and a young and promising Prof. Yannis Dimakopoulos of the University of Patras, Greece, entitled “Hemodynamics of the Aortic Valve: Numerical Simulation and Open Issues”.
A highlight of HSR-2011 was the banquet, which took place on Tuesday night, 28 June 2011, in a nearby taverna with entertainment provided by the older generation of Greek rheologists reminiscing about past high and low points of rheology.
A report about this meeting from our new president is here.
The program of the conference and the book of abstracts are given here. There are also a few photos from the conference: Photo 1, Photo 2, Photo 3 .

The 5th International Meeting of the Hellenic Society of Rheology (HSR 2007)
took place in Rhodes, in 5 - 10 of June, 2007, together with the XVth International Workshop on Numerical Methods in Non-Newtonian Fluid Flows. As usual, the chair of the organizing commitee was Evan Mitsoulis. Details are given in the 2nd announcement. The programme and some abstracts of this meeting are available.
Special emphasis was given to the following fields of research:
rheology and rheometry, structure and dynamics of polymers, colloids and suspensions, molecular modeling, numerical simulations experimental, theoretical & computational fluid dynamics

The 3rd International Meeting of the Hellenic Society of Rheology, June 10-14, 2001,
Patras, Greece, was dedicated to Professor Andreas Acrivos, one of the most influential
chemical engineers of the last 50 years, on the occasion of his retirement from the City
College of the City University of New York, where he held the A. Einstein Chair at the
Levich Institute.
- The 2nd Scientific Meeting of the Society took place between August 31-September
2, 1998, in Heraklion, Crete, Greece. It was attended by more than 60 people and established HSR as one of the most rapidly growing Scientific Societies in Greece.

The 1st Scientific Meeting of the Society was the organization
of an International Symposium on Rheology and Computational Fluid
Mechanics held between July 4-5, 1996, in Nicosia, Cyprus. This
Symposium was dedicated to the memory of the distinguished rheologist
Prof. Tasos Papanastasiou.

Policy on Meetings
Meetings of the Hellenic Society of Rheology are to be
held every two years in the summer. The meetings ordinarily will
last two to three days and are open to both members and non-members.
Every effort is made to stimulate and encourage fruitful discussion
during the technical sessions, with 25 minutes normally allotted
to the presentation and discussion of each paper. There are normally
no more than four simultaneous sessions, and the program includes
plenary lectures, special symposia, informal evening discussions,
and instrument exhibits.
